Why A Skatepark For Columbia Falls?

Since 2003, professional, world-class, concrete skateparks have been built around the state of Montana, ranging in locations from urban settings such as Missoula, Butte, Helena, Great Falls, and Billings, to small, rural communities such as Box Elder, Big Sandy, Darby, Alberton, Stevensville, Hays, Malta, St. Ignatius, and Browning. Presently there are 32 skateparks in our beautiful state!

But we still don’t have a skatepark here in Columbia Falls.

While Kalispell and Whitefish have both had excellent skateparks for over fifteen years, Columbia Falls residents have not. To skate, we had to drive to neighboring towns, or farther. The goal of building a new skatepark in Columbia Falls is to provide a top-notch facility that is easily accessible to local residents. Kids need to be able to walk, bike, or skateboard to the skatepark.

Skateparks give kids and adults from all walks of life an outside space in which to be active, creative, and share the fun with their friends. Skateparks are all-inclusive and places where everyone can be challenged at his or her own skill level. You never have to “make the team” or “try-out” for the skatepark. You merely show up and skate!

Beyond the obvious physical and mental health benefits of a skatepark, people will come to Columbia Falls to skate as tourism continues to grow in our region. Folks from all over the country and world have made specific visits to the skateparks of Montana, and Columbia Falls will be no exception.

So please consider donating and/or volunteering to help us build a beautiful new skatepark here in Columbia Falls for us and the world to enjoy!

Who is Badrock Skatepark Association?

The Badrock Skatepark Association is a mix of skateboarders, parents, and locals who share the dream of creating a skatepark for the community of Columbia Falls. With diverse backgrounds and strengths, the board members of the Badrock Skatepark Association have come together to see our community gets a skatepark.

Matt Holloway (President) has skateboarded since middle school and loves it now more than ever. Former Whitefish High School English teacher and backcountry ranger in Glacier Park, Holloway now tutors kids and helps them apply to college, as well as volunteering at the Whitefish Skate Camp in the summer, where his own kids have attended.

Rebecca Powell (Treasurer) works for the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation and has a young son who began skateboarding this past year. After a trip to Oregon where she saw skateparks in so many little towns, she knew Columbia Falls would benefit from having a similar opportunity.

Simon Smith (Secretary) has also since he was a kid, and has been active in the Seattle, WA and Las Vegas, NV skateboard scenes, as well as here in the Flathead Valley. Smith owns his own handyman/construction business and is an exceptional artist who created the logo for the nonprofit.

Tyrel Johnson (Board Member) is another life-long skateboarder who has also volunteered at the Whitefish Skate Camp, has kids who skate and is the Operations Manager at the Glacier Park Boat Company, where he has worked since 2006.

Our Builders – Dreamland Skateparks

I have 26 years of hands-on experience building parks and have gained critical insight into the proper approach for each individual project. In 1990 I started volunteering my time and using donated materials to build the Burnside skatepark and am a big fan of using “in-kind” donations to make parks larger and better for all. Dreamland is happy to work with donated labor and materials (when appropriate) and we often volunteer our efforts to worthy projects.

All of our projects are completed on time and within budget with 100% success to date. We have established great relationships with all our clients and have been invited back to build second and even third phases for multiple projects. Here at Dreamland Skateparks we are all passionate skateboarders and we take pride in our work and it shows in the designs and craftsmanship of our parks. We look forward to talking to you soon.
